Former Indian cricketer Sreesanth has found himself at the centre of a controversy once again after being booked for allegedly extorting ₹18 lakh from a man by promising him a villa in Udupi, Karnataka. Sreesanth, who was once a flamboyant and passionate fast bowler for India, has a history of off-field controversies. He was banned from cricket for five years in 2013 for his involvement in spot-fixing during the Indian Premier League (IPL).

About Sreesanth

Sreesanth is a former Indian cricketer who played as a fast bowler and right-handed batsman. He was known for his aggressive bowling style and ability to swing the ball both ways. He played in the Indian team that won the 2007 T20 World Cup. His career was marred by controversies and suspensions, including a five-year ban for spot-fixing. After retiring from cricket, he has appeared in films and television shows, worked as a cricket commentator, and participated in the reality show Bigg Boss 15.

He was an aggressive bowler who attacked the batsmen. His ability to swing the ball both ways made him difficult to play. He could bowl a variety of slower balls, which further deceived batsmen. His bowling weaknesses included erratic line and length, and a volatile temperament.

Despite his inconsistent performances, Sreesanth was a talented and exciting bowler with the potential to be one of the best in the world. His off-field behavior prevented him from reaching his full potential.

What exactly happened?

The latest allegations against Sreesanth came to light when a man from Kannapuram, Kerala, filed a complaint with the police accusing the cricketer and his associates of cheating him. The complainant, identified as Sarish Gopalan, alleged that Sreesanth and his associates (Rajeev Kumar and Venkatesh Kini) had promised him a villa in Udupi in exchange for ₹18 lakh. Sarish Gopalan claimed that he had paid the money in installments, but he never received the villa. He also said that he had tried to contact Sreesanth and his associates, but they were unresponsive.

Following Sarish Gopalan’s complaint, the Town Police in Kannur registered a case against Sreesanth and his associates under Sections 420 (cheating) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code. Sreesanth has denied the allegations, calling them “baseless” and “false.” He has also said that he will take legal action against those who have made the allegations against him.

Sreesanth’s representatives have said that his client has been “falsely implicated” in the case. “Sreesanth has no connection with this case. He has not taken any money from the complainant. We will file a petition in the court and seek quashing of the case”

The allegations against Sreesanth have come as a shock to his fans and supporters. He is a popular figure in Kerala, where he is known for his humble background and his fighting spirit on the cricket field. However, his off-field controversies have tarnished his image and raised questions about his character repeatedly.

It remains to be seen how the case against Sreesanth will pan out. If the allegations are found to be true, it could mean another ban for the cricketer, effectively putting an end to his career. However, if he is able to clear his name, it could give him a chance to redeem himself and make a comeback to cricket. His attempts to come back to Cricket has not fallen on deaf ears and him being proven innocent could mean that his dream lives on.

The dispute is currently not “hot”, and the police or any relevant authorities are yet to make any arrests or decide who’s at fault. He has been summoned to appear for questioning, and it is expected that he will cooperate with the investigation.
