Yesterday SRH made history by scoring the highest total of ipl 277-3 against MI by breaking the former record of 263-5 made by RCB against Pune Warriors in 2013.
RCB fans are again in trauma as the only thing they had to flex, didn’t last long, that is highest score in the IPL history
Introduction
The Indian Premier League (IPL) is renowned for its high-scoring games and impressive batting performances. The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) went one step further on March 27, 2024, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, writing their name in history with the highest team total ever in the IPL. The previous record of 263 for 5 wickets, held by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) since 2013, was surpassed by their massive score of 277 for 3 wickets against the Mumbai Indians (MI).
This outstanding batting display by SRH was the result of their top order as a whole, not just one player.
Head and Sharma Get Things Started Fast:
SRH batters Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma wasted no time in setting the tone for a large total after MI . Head maintained his excellent form after his World Cup heroics, scoring a scorching 62 runs off just 24 deliveries. He delivered a powerful and elegant knock that featured three sixes and nine fours.
But at the beginning, it was the youthful Abhishek Sharma who stole the show. The left-handed batsman produced a furious blowout, scoring his fifty in just 16 balls—the quickest fifty for the Sunrisers in IPL history.
Some extraordinary finishing by Klassen and Markaram
Head and Sharma’s departure put the middle order in a position to maintain the momentum. Heinrich Klaasen and Aiden Markram rose to the challenge, putting together a 150+ runs partnership Markram led the middle order with his well-paced 42 runs in a calm innings. He struck with a good temperament, rotating it and finding the boundary on a regular basis.
Conversely, Klaasen assumed the role of the aggressor. With an incredible 80 runs off just 34 balls, the South African wicket-keeper batsman put the Mumbai Indians bowling attack to the test. His innings, which featured four fours and an incredible seven sixes, were a masterclass in power hitting. Markram and Klaasen together made sure that SRH lost their momentum.
MI Bowling Breaks Down Under Stress
Although the spectacular batting performance by SRH must be commended, careful examination of the Mumbai Indians bowling attack is also warranted. Normally a dependable wicket-taker, Jasprit Bumrah had an average day, on giving up 36 runs in his 4 overs without taking a wicket. None of the other bowlers for MI was able to take more than one wicket, as the rest of the bowling attack found it difficult to contain the SRH batsmen.
An Evening That Broke Records for SRH
Apart from becoming the team with the highest total in IPL history, the SRH innings was also a night of individual triumphs. Abhishek Sharma’s fifty off of sixteen balls was the Sunrisers’ fastest-ever IPL century. Head and Klaasen not
only reached their respective fifties but also showed off the strength of SRH’s batting lineup.
An Evening to Remember for Hyderabad Cricket Fans
For fans of Hyderabad cricket, the record-breaking performance by SRH made for an unforgettable evening. As the home team rewrote the history books, the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium erupted in celebration. This commanding performance gave SRH more self-assurance in the current IPL season and also delivered a clear message to their rivals.
A competitive fightback by MI openers and batters
The MI batsmen gave up a fight even in the face of a challenging total. From the beginning, they took an aggressive approach, with openers Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan seeking to score rapidly. Even though they both left the game with terrific start, stage was set middle order to carry on with the chase
Tilak Varma, a talented youngster , became the MI innings’ shining star. He led the chase in the middle overs with a composed knock of 64 runs off 34 deliveries. His innings featured a good balance of caution and aggression along with some amazing strokeplay.
At the end of 20 overs they managed to get 246, which is a big score but not enough to win the match
