According to Mexican media outlets, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak was hospitalized in Mexico City due to a possible stroke, but a local media reporting sources stated the illness was possibly a less serious bout of vertigo.

He is a 73-year-old scientist and tech entrepreneur and was scheduled to attend a World Business Forum event in Mexico City’s Santa Fe neighborhood. The event organizers did not respond immediately to a request for comment. Wozniak was planned to speak at the conference in the evening. Officials were unable to confirm the reports that Wozniak had been hospitalized immediately.

According to a spokesperson, citing sources with firsthand knowledge, Wozniak finished his speech but then told his wife he was “feeling strange.” She allegedly insisted on him going to the hospital. But Wozniak may have experienced vertigo. Doctors are performing tests on Wozniak in the emergency room of a hospital in Mexico City. Several members of his team are said to be flying to the United States on a private jet to check on him and, if necessary, wanted to take him to the United States for further treatment.

In March, he and Elon Musk signed a letter calling for a halt in the development of the most powerful artificial intelligence (AI) models. AI could make it more difficult to detect scams, according to Wozniak. When he spoke to the media in May 2023, he called for AI regulation, fearing that “bad actors” would exploit the technology.

He said in the meeting that AI is so intelligent and it’s open to bad players in the world, they are the ones that want to pretend about who they are. But he stated his doubt that regulators would get it right.

Wozniak demonstrated an early aptitude for electronics and computers, which would be crucial in his future endeavors. He is well-known for his technical prowess and creativity. He designed and built the early Apple computers’ hardware, including the circuit board and software that set them apart from competitors.

His work ended in 1981 when he crashed his small plane, temporarily leaving him with traumatic amnesia, rendering him unable to form new long-term memories, and he was forced to take a retreat. After receiving the National Medal of Technology from US President Ronald W. Reagan, he returned to Apple the following year before finally retiring as an active employee.

He spent the next several decades immersed in philanthropic endeavors, particularly the cause of children’s education. Although he was semi retired after Apple, he occasionally served as an advisor or board member for various companies, or even as a full-time employee in the case of Fusion-Io.

After leaving Apple in 1985, Wozniak became involved in a variety of philanthropic and educational endeavors. He has contributed to causes such as education, technology, and youth development. He has also advocated for computer education and coding for children.

Despite the fact that he is no longer actively involved in Apple’s day-to-day operations, Wozniak remains a powerful figure in the tech world and a source of inspiration for aspiring engineers and entrepreneurs.
