The striking resemblance between ‘Stree 2‘ and ‘Stranger Things 2‘
While waiting for the sequel to “Stree” to be released, people have been arguing on social media about the film’s poster. Audiences on social media have pointed out that the new poster of the Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao starrer resembles the poster of ‘Stranger Things 2’ on Netflix and called it plagiarism.
It is worth noting that the similarities between the two posters are quite apparent. Critics pointed out that the color combination, arrangement, and overall outlook of the “Stree 2” poster are a carbon copy of the “Stranger Things 2” poster. Some have even resorted to calling it a “direct lift,” which means that the design decisions are too similar to be a coincidence. On Twitter, one user said, “The poster for Stree 2 seems to be a copy of Stranger Things 2.” Another asked, “Is this a copy?” Other users commented, “Why does this look like a rip-off of Stranger Things 2?” and “Copy or Coincidence? This looks like a copy.”
However, not all share this opinion, and there are people who have accused others. Those in support of the “Stree 2” poster insist that though the color palette used in the poster is similar to “Stranger Things 2,” the background and overall layout of the two are different. They also note that while the series is based on the supernatural and the movie is based on the supernatural as well, there would be some similarities in design because of that. One of them said, “Though the color tone is the same, the background of Stree 2 is different, and it has film references.” Another said, “It is just a homage to the supernatural genre but not a rip-off.”.
Everything you need to know about the comedy-horror.
The Stree 2, directed by Amar Kaushik, is the most-awaited sequel to the 2018 comedy-horror film Stree and the fifth part of Maddock Supernatural Universe. The film continues the story of Rajkummar Rao as Vicky and Shraddha Kapoor as an unnamed woman. The film also stars Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee, Aparshakti Khurana, and Sunita Rajwar, with Tamannaah Bhatia and Varun Dhawan in cameo roles.
The story of ‘Stree 2’ revolves around a headless monster called Sarkate, who goes around the town of Chanderi abducting women. The heroes, such as Vicky and the unknown girl acted by Kapoor, have to face Sarkate and save the people. The film expands on the story of the first “Stree” while being connected to other Maddock Supernatural Universe movies like “Bhediya” and “Munjya.”
However, people are eagerly waiting for ‘Stree 2′, which is under controversy. The film is scheduled to release on August 15, 2024, and it will be up against Akshay Kumar’s ‘Khel Khel Mein’, John Abraham’s ‘Vedaa’, and Vikram’s ‘Thangalaan’. There is good buzz for the film as the advance booking opened, and within the first 48 hours, it had sold more than 100,000 tickets.
Further spicing up the story, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has given a ‘U/A’ certificate to ‘Stree 2’ which means that though the movie is safe for viewers over 12 years of age, parents should exercise some caution. The film has a total of 149 minutes and 29 seconds.
The controversy regarding the poster will not affect “Stree 2.” As the movie hits theaters, the audience and critics will be waiting to see if the film will be as good as the first part and how it will perform on Independence Day when there are many movies being released.
