According to a very recent study, the universe may have had a secret life before.

According to the Journal of Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics, the universe went through a contraction phase even before the big bang, which also formed black holes that also could be the potential source of dark matter that exists.

It is also said that if the bouncing cosmology theory is proven to be correct, the whole perception of the universe might change, especially regarding the black hole.

The scientists believe that the universe was formed due to a massive ‘big bang’ that occurred, which also triggered rapid expansion. But in recent times, the experts in cosmology believe that the universe first went through a ‘shrinkage phase’, which eventually led to a compact state before it bounced back towards the expansion.

This bounce back could have significant implications on the formations of the black holes and the mysterious dark matter, which make up to 80% of the matter in our universe.

The study also suggests that while the universe was contracting, the fluctuations in density could have given rise to tiny black holes. The existence of these black holes could also provide a good explanation for the elusive nature of dark matter, which does not interact with light.

According to Patrick Peter, the director of research at the French National Centre for scientific research (CNRS), “Small primordial black holes can be produced during the very early stages of the universe, and if they are not too small, their decay due to Hawking radiation will not be efficient enough to get rid of them, so they would still be around now. Weighing more or less the mass of an asteroid, they could contribute to dark matter or even solve the issue together.”

Researchers believe that the future gravitational wave observatories will possess the ability to recognize the gravitational waves birthed from the formation of primordial black holes.
