The DUI incident involving Suga of BTS lays the cornerstone of the new fatally dangerous trend “#Suga Challenge”. The DUI is the center of various wild speculations, rumors and accusations.
Seoul: “#Suga Challenge”, a dangerous drunk challenge emerged after Min Yoongi alias Suga of BTS was accused of the Drive Under Influence case. The fatal challenge involves a person at the driving seat while holding a liquor bottle. The challenge is not just illegal and violation of traffic law but can be fatal for the driver and passersby on the road.
Suga, the main rapper of BTS, producer and a songwriter, got himself involved in the illegal act of driving under influence. The incident came into the spotlight after Suga posted an apology message on Weverse on 7th Aug,2024. The post read as “I feel heavy and sorry to come to you (fans/ARMY) with disappointment.” It confessed that he rode an electric scooter after drinking at dinner, unaware of the fact that he cannot ride any kind of vehicle under influence. He was spotted falling off the scooter while parking it by a police officer near him and took a breath test under suspicion after which he got arrested at the spot, further stated in the post.
Acknowledging responsibility for his careless actions, Suga apologized to the legal authority involved and his well-wishers. He also acknowledges to settle the matter legally, soughting more cautions in the future after DUI incident.
BigHit, the label company of BTS, later confirmed the incident and released statement sorting details regarding the incident. The label re-issued their statement realizing the severity of categorization of the vehicle involved in the DUI incident. The incident involved no harm or damage to people or property, which helped reduce the punishment. The punishment included revoking of license and imposed fine.
There are many wild speculations surrounding the “#Suga Challenge” are circulating on social media. Some say that the initiators of the challenge are Suga fans supporting their idol by following his footsteps. Whereas, ARMYs defending themselves and their idol claim that it’s the haters that are trying to defame them and Suga. However, the origin of the challenge and surrounding speculations haven’t been identified yet but there is a strong request to not participate in such dangerous challenges, as they can be fatal to both the performer and those around them as well.
Suga’s fellow member and rapper RM aka Kim Namjoon, also the leader of the K-pop band BTS, faced backlash from the netizens amid DUI controversy. RM was compelled to delete his new album’s congratulatory post from Instagram following accusations of deliberate and inconsiderate negligence towards his fellow bandmate.
The Daechwita songwriter and singer Suga is currently fulfilling his mandatory military service. Due to his shoulder injury he was assigned office work which mandated more working days than normal military service.
