Apparently she is said to have made her debut with the film ‘Grahan’ and has also been writing books before she made her mark in the cinematic world. Of late ,she has co-written all the three seasons of Aarya and recently she has written two films i.e Shastri Viruddh Shastri and Sajini Shinde ka Viral Video.
In an exclusive interview to Hindustan Times, she spoke about her journey in the Bollywood industry and also shed some light on the story and dialogues of Aarya 3.
On Aarya Season 3
Anu mentions that she walked into the writer’s room for the first time when she was called for co-writing Aarya with three other national film award winners. Though her film Grahan was released earlier, she says that her first entry to the writer’s room was when she was onboarded as co-writer for Aarya season 1 and she began her work on it,first.
On seeing her nervous, Ram Madhvani pulled her to the side and said to her that nobody was a junior or senior in that room and she should respect the things for what she has been called. She said that the senior writers too encouraged her and motivated to do her job well.
She said that initially she attempted a pilot and volunteered for it even if it meant to be put in trash. But the reviews she received for it were amazing and that simply boosted her confidence in many ways.
Meeting Sushmita Sen for the first time
Anu said that she usually doesn’t prefer to be on sets of the movies written by her because she believes that the minute the writing part is done, her job is over and that is why she never goes to any sets.
She recollected that she visited the muhurat and sets of Aarya season one and happened to meet Bollywood actress Sushmita Sen for the first time. Talking about her, she says Sushmita Sen reflects a lot of warmth, respect, inquisitiveness and resilience to those around her and that is what motivates people around her. She said that this time Sushmita Sen mentioned that indeed the dialogues were very heavy on her.
On asking what is special about season 3 to make it over the top,she says that in Season 3 Aarya and other characters have evolved beautifully and now she does not have the conflict in her that she had initially. Moreover, the character is now the boss of her own and the dialogues flow naturally as that.
She also stated that the one liners that were put in season 1 went exceptionally well with the audiences which is why they had to be added throughout to maintain the Aaryaism.
Solo writing and writer’s room
Anu said that she enjoyed being in the writer’s room for the first time .she says that once the director or the makers give a clear idea as to what they want or narrate the outline then it becomes easy to shape the character and then the writer’s room is full with writer’s ,directors, producer, actors who discuss on the characters, the tracks, plots, twists, potential conflicts and decide how much more masala can be added to it.
It apparently takes 3-6 months of time to come to the whole of the story provided your basic narrative is ready faster.
Her upcoming film is an adaptation of ‘The Great Indian Kitchen ‘ and is going to be the Hindi version of it, she says on asking about her upcoming projects.
