A 16-year-old boy brutally attacked a 17-year-old on Tuesday night in the Welcome neighborhood of northeast Delhi. The boy stabbed the victim at least 60 times, attempted to sever his neck, kicked his head, and even dragged the bloodied body around a small bylane. The incident was heartbreaking to witness. The suspect, a dropout from school who was drunk at the time of the attack, was taken into custody early on Wednesday and charged with murder. The 16-year-old, who lives with his parents, are daily wage laborers, allegedly approached the victim in Janta Mazdoor Colony and asked for ₹350 so that he could buy biryani. After the victim refused, there was a fight, and the suspect choked the boy until he passed out.

The assailant kicks the victim in the head, kneels, and repeatedly slices across his neck before digging and twisting the knife in a terrifying sequence. Suddenly, about a minute and a half into the attack, the suspect starts dancing hysterically for a short while. He keeps stabbing nonstop while dragging the lifeless body, continuing the act of brutality.

Tirkey also disclosed that a few locals tried to step in but were frightened off by the victim, emphasizing how chaotic and horrifying the attack was. The deputy commissioner attested to the fact that the suspect had been drinking when he committed the assault.
In response to the unfortunate incident, Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR) member Ranjana Prasad stated that the panel intended to step in and offer the suspect counseling. It’s possible that the child didn’t receive an education or grow up in a safe environment. In addition, he might have been exposed to violence as a child,” Prasad said, throwing light on possible underlying problems that could have contributed to the unsettling actions of the teenage attacker.
