Vikram starrer Thangalaan, the highly anticipated action-adventure film made its theatrical release on August 15. Reason behind the setback
The slow pace of Thangalaan‘s box office performance can be attributed to several factors. While the film’s visuals and action sequences have received praise from critics, its narrative and pacing have been met with mixed reviews. Some viewers have found the film’s runtime to be excessive, and its plot has been criticized for being predictable.
Moreover, the film’s release coincided with several other highly anticipated films, including “Stree 2” and “Khel Khel Mein”. This intense competition for audience attention has undoubtedly impacted Thangalaan’s box office returns.
Despite the grandeur and scale of the film, it seems to have failed to connect with a wider audience. The film’s historical setting and complex narrative may have alienated some viewers.
Impact on Vikram’s Career
The underwhelming performance of Thangalaan is a significant setback for Vikram, who has been riding high on the success of his previous film, Ponniyin Selvan: I. The latter proved to be a massive commercial success, but Thangalaan has failed to replicate its feat.
About Thangalaan
Set during the British Raj era, Thangalaan revolves around a fierce tribal leader who sets out to stop an apparent sorceress, after earning her wrath when assisting a British general in tracing gold in their village. The film is based on the true events that revolve around the lives of mine workers in the Kolar Gold Fields, Karnataka.
The film explores themes of identity, belonging and exploitation of the oppressed. It also delves into the historical context of the British Raj and the impact of colonialism on the lives of the indigenous people.
The Cast
The film stars Vikram in the titular role. Thangalaan also features Malavika Mohanan as Aarathi, Daniel Caltagirone as Lord Clement, Preeti Karam as Arasani, Parvathy Thiruvothu, Hari Krishnan, Pasupathy, Arjun Anbudan and Preeti Karan.
