Darshan, a popular Kannada actor, is incarcerated. Darshan is currently spending days and nights in a jail after being accused of organizing and killing Renukaswamy, one of his supporters.
After just one week, his life has fallen apart. People who have dealt with him or watched his career as an actor say they are not shocked.
Darshan, who is frequently referred to be a “power and fame drunk,” is the complete antithesis of the majority of Kannada cinema stars, who are approachable, modest, and kind.
Known for being haughty and conceited, he has made headlines for violent crimes several times during the last ten to fifteen years. For over a month, he was detained in jail for allegedly abusing his now-divorced wife Vijayalakshmi.
However, Darshan has a sizable fan base, which may be a sign of the expanding Kannada film industry. The majority of his followers are from lower social levels and harbor resentment towards the system because they believe it treats them unfairly. Thus far, Darshan’s deliberate construction of a robust identity around him has proven beneficial to both of them.
It was not like that in Kannada movies until the 1990s. Under the direction of the late actor Rajkumar, it was highly respected. A hero such as Rajkumar detested violence and opposed its idealization in movies.
The younger generation was searching for something more serious in movies; they were not satisfied with light violence. A lot of new chances had been created by the economic liberalization, and people could access the information from anywhere in the world.
On the Kannada celluloid, a new celebrity named Upendra made an appearance, solely endorsing blood and gore. Overnight, he became a huge celebrity. His films were filled of violence, gore, immorality, rebellious themes, and fantasy, in contrast to the tired, boring cinema of the past. At the box office, some of his pictures brought in enormous sums of money, and Upendra became the next celebrity.
In actuality, Darshan practices that style of filmmaking. He gained the respect and compassion of his admirers by sharing his hardship and family tragedy with them. His fan following continued to grow regardless of how well his films did at the box office. He began to brag that he had more followers than the esteemed Rajkumar
Yet the difference was striking. Darshan’s fan base was disorderly and less refined than Rajkumar’s.
Those who harbored resentment towards society turned into his supporters, applauding every deed the celebrity, who had already lost control, performed, both on and off film. They supported him when it was reported that he had abused his wife. They applauded him and jeered his film business competitors when he was accused of abusing other celebrities.
It provided him with the crucial steroid. According to insiders, he ignored every recommendations to sober up and carried on with his wild life.
Regretfully, he believed he was a messiah, but his fame, wealth, and admirers had turned him into a monster. His blind followers held his magnificence to be true.
Darshan is facing a dismal future after accusations that he killed his fan by beating him with the assistance of other followers and his lover. Darshan, who is said to be an alcoholic, is not expected to recover from this. Life will not be the same for him even if he succeeds in deceiving our much-maligned criminal justice system.
In Kannada movies, there is a bad element. Darshan is only an indication of the deeper rot.
Sanjjanaa Galrani’s Defense of Darshan.
Several Sandalwood celebrities, including Upendra, Kiccha Sudeepa, and Ramya, have responded to Kannada actor Darshan’s arrest in the suspected murder case of his fan Renukaswamy, calling for justice for the departed and the revelation of the truth. Actor Sanjjanaa Galrani is one among them; she is in favor of both Renukaswamy’s justice and everyone’s refraining from treating Darshan like a prisoner just yet. Galrani vehemently disputes the falsehoods propagated about Darshan, claiming that he is a good man and that one should let the law play out its natural course.

In an exclusive discussion with HTCity, Galrani, who collaborated with Darshan on the films Arjun (2008) and Agraja (2014), states that it is premature to label someone as a criminal. He is a class act. He has had one or two out-of-control events in the past, but these things happen to everyone from time to time. He hasn’t been found guilty; he is only an accused person.”
