The Indian adaptation of The Night Manager, starring Anil Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapoor in key roles, has bagged a nomination for Best Drama Series at the 2024 International Emmy Awards, marking a global recognition. It also stars Tillotama Shome, Ravi Behl, and Saswata Chatterjee in pivotal supporting roles. The Disney+ Hotstar crime thriller will be competing against other top international dramas, including Les Gouttes de Dieu from France, The Newsreader– Season 2 from Australia, and Iosi, El Espía Arrepentido– Season 2 from Argentina.
Anil Kapoor reacts to ‘The Night Manager’ Emmy nomination
In response to the nomination, Anil Kapoor, who plays the antagonist Shailendra Rungta in the series, expressed his excitement and appreciation in a statement shared by his PR team. “It’s just been brought to my attention that our Indian adaptation of The Night Manager has been nominated for an International Emmy. I remember when the offer came in, I was conflicted,” Anil Kapoor shared. “It offered me the opportunity to play a character so complex, but also the huge responsibility of adding a newness and authenticity to a role that had been played so masterfully by Hugh Laurie.”
He also added, “This validation from the Emmys, in addition to the tremendous love we have received from fans worldwide, is a worthy reminder that hard work always pays off. I am ecstatic and hungrier than ever before for what’s to come,” The Indian version of The Night Manager, directed by Sandeep Modi, takes inspiration from the British series of the same name. The show is adapted from both- the John Le Carré’s novel and the British show, starring Tom Hiddleston, Hugh Laurie and Olivia Colman.
The Night Manager as a contender on global stage
The nomination is notable as The Night Manager was the only entry from India across 14 categories at the International Emmys. The announcement of the 2024 International Emmy Award nominations were revealed by the International Academy of Arts and Sciences that took place on Thursday, revealing a diverse list of 56 contenders from 21 countries, all competing in 14 categories. The awards celebrate the best in television from around the world, with the winners set to be announced during a star-studded ceremony on November 25 in New York. Indian comedian Vir Das, who won an Emmy for his stand-up special Landing will host the event, adding to the Indian representation at the international ceremony, alongside The Night Manager nomination.
