On the morning of Sunday December 29th, an aircraft crashed upon landing in South Korea, claiming a lot of lives. 179 of the 181 passengers died in the plane crash, which was returning from Bangkok, Thailand. Because they were situated in the tail area of the aircraft, just two flight attendants survived the harrowing accident. There have been investigations surrounding the cause of the crash and fire authorities say it was due to adverse weather conditions and a bird strike. However, experts have reminded that a variety of circumstances might have contributed to the tragedy.
After regaining consciousness, the two survivors of the deadliest air catastrophe in South Korean history couldn’t remember the event and seemed disoriented and bewildered when asked about their health.
Lee, 32, and Kwon, 25, were the two survivors who were taken out from the tail section of the burned-out aeroplane. Their memories of the disaster are said to be clouded by shock and bewilderment. Lee kept asking “What happened” and “Why am I here” after being rescued, according to a Korean Times report. She was still awake despite suffering head injuries and a shattered left shoulder, according to medical officials.
Mokpo Central Hospital is treating the second survivor, a flight attendant named Kwon, who is 25 years old. Kwon also described experiencing excruciating pain in her head, foot and abdomen while retaining no memory of the collision. She has a fractured ankle, a cut on her scalp, and is being tested for stomach injuries.
The hospital workers stated that although both survivors have suffered severe stress and injuries, their lives are not at threat. According to hospital officials, Lee’s response illustrates the psychological repercussions of the accident. According to a medical expert, “it seems he was in a near-panic state, possibly worried about the safety of the plane and passengers.”
After the Jeju Air jet crashed on Sunday, hundreds of mourners have been camped out at South Korea’s Muan International Airport, upset that they have yet to view the remains of their loved ones. These horrific revelations reduced some of them to tears while the rest were left in a haze of exhausted, dismayed silence.
