At the beginning of the day, Sukanta Majumdar attended a demonstration in Baguiati. Police  officers and other security forces wearing helmets were also present at the scene.

Majumdar told reporters that they will begin a seven-day dharna from August 29 after the  Calcutta  High Court gave permission. “The Calcutta High Court has given us permission to hold a seven-day dharna. We will start it from tomorrow. We welcome their decision. There is no democracy here, the police cannot stop firing, but only the BJP remains to protest. “Police can arrest BJP leaders but not the accused,” he told reporters.

The BJP has called for a ’12-hour Bengal Bandh’ after Kolkata Police resorted to lathi charge, use of water cannons and tear gas against protesters in the Nabnna Abhiyaan rally.
