Kimchi

Featured in almost every k drama this korean side dish appears to be the heart and soul of k drama food. Made from fermented Baechu cabbage and other spicy ingredients, that helps kimchi retain its classic spicy yet tangy taste. This spicy cabbage dish is really similar to and  will remind you of Desi ‘Aachar’, similarly you directly get its canned version from supermarkets but the natives often like making it during kimjang season during late autumn.

    Ramen

“Rameon meok o galle?” a phrase often spoken in every romantic k drama, which has nothing to do with ramen. Which was the last k drama you saw that didn’t mention Ramen in it?  Every K-drama is incomplete without it. Ramen noodles are likely to be the most loved Korean food not only in Asia but world-wide. These instant noodles come in hundreds of different flavors and are available in every store. It has become the most tried Korean food after the romantic k-drama ‘What’s wrong with Secretary Kim’, and now you too can easily find it in your nearest supermarkets and online stores.

      Tteokbokki (Rice cakes)

This korean dish appears very similar to pasta but its spicy-cheesy is something that makes it one of the most famous k drama dishes. Tteokbokki is a korean staple food made up of rice flour and has a classic chewy texture but the best  part of this dish is its mind blowing spicy sauce that gives it a rich flavor. It came to trend after most famous k dramas like ‘The Heirs’ and ‘Romance is a bonus book’.

Mandu is a Korean dish very similar to our momo and dumplings. It comes with various different stuffings like veggies, beef, chicken and pork that gives each one of it a different taste. Similar to momos they can either be steamed, deep fried and are also likely to be eaten in soup. It is served with an authentic sauce made from chili oil, vinegar and soy sauce. I tried it 4 years back after watching ‘Hotel Del luna’ and today it is one of my go to dishes.

Got famous after k dramas like ‘Crash Landing on you’ and ‘Start up’. I often wondered how different the hyped up Korean fried chicken is from the Indian version of fried chicken. Now after trying it i feel comparing both of them would be wrong and that both dishes are unique in their own ways.
