CVVRS footage of DTC cab

It took 2 days of investigation when the prime reason behind this mishappening came forth. According to the sources, CVVRS (Crew Voice & Video Recording System) surveillance camera placed inside the DTC cab (Engine) had captured a footage in which a man entered the DTC cab and carelessly threw his bag on the throttle (which controls the speed of the train) which made the train accelerate to full speed. This led to the train crossing the dead end of the station and climbing Platform Number 2.

Alcohol Consumption on duty

The man was found to be an ETL staff member named Sachin, as per the Joint report. However, Sachin claims himself to be a helper only. He was busy on a video call on his phone when all the carelessness happened. He was also sent for the medical test to check the level of alcohol in his blood samples, which later came to be 47 mg/ 100 ml which means he was mildly drunk.

As per the report, his duty in-charge had asked him to go inside the cab and bring the keys from the loco pilot. But the main point to notice here is, technicians need to receive the DTC key, but here the technician asked the helper to receive it.

Suspended individuals

Tej Prakash Agrawal, posted as Divisional Railway Manager, suspended 5 people including Sachin following the incident. Other 4 people are namely: Harbhajan Singh, Brajesh Kumar, Kuljeet and Govid Hari Sharma. The first three persons are technical staff and the last one is the loco pilot. All the 5 persons were found drunk and were using their phones on duty. The investigation is still going on.

Sachin’s Statement

Sachin said that when he entered and put his bag inside the cab, the train started moving. He panicked and tried applying emergency brakes but the train had already half climbed the platform. He said when he enquired duty in-charge about the reasons, he found that the key was in position and the throttle was also in forward position (which happened due to the pressure of his bag). So, technically, He has blamed the loco pilot for leaving the train in ‘switched on’ position. However, the loco pilot has denied his accusations saying that he had handed over the keys to Sachin.
