Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said on Monday that if elected he would consider ending a $7,500 tax credit for electric-vehicle purchases and that he would be open to naming mask to a advisory role.

Musk last month intimately championed Trump in the U.S. presidential race. Tesla did not incontinently respond to a request for comment. However, Trump could take a way to reverse Treasury Department rules that have made it easier for automakers to take advantage of the $ 7, 500 credit or could ask the U.S. Congress to repeal it entirely.

Trump To End EV Duty ?

While president, Trump sought to repeal the EV duty credit which was later expanded by President Joe Biden in 2022. “I am not making any final opinions on it,” Trump said of the EV duty credit.” I am a big addict of electric buses , but I am an addict of gasoline- propelled buses , and also mongrels and whatever additional happens to come on.” He added that he’d rescind the Biden administration rules that will prod automakers to make further EVs and plug- in mongrels to meet stricter immigration norms and said he sees a” much lower request” for EVs because of cost and battery range issues. 

Trump also said on Monday he’d take measures to discourage exports of vehicles produced by the Detroit Three automakers and others from Mexico for U.S consumers by assessing new tariffs and would help Chinese automakers from erecting new shops in Mexico for U.S. request vehicles.
