As the U.S. Presidential election enters its final stage, Donald Trump and Kamala Harris both are making uncommendable efforts to influence the voters. Kamala Harris by highlighting her background as prosecutor stressing towards holding Trump accountable for the legal charges he faces. Meanwhile Trump has taken aim at Harris, questioning her racial identity in a bid to undermine her credibility.

Donald Trump’s insensitive attacks on Kamala Harris

Donald Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, By questioning Harris’s whether she is an “Indian or Black” has directly attacked on her racial identity. Which has sparked a major debate in the US presidential election. Speaking at the National Association of Black Journalists convention in Chicago, Trump remarked, “I’ve known her a long time, indirectly, not directly very much, and she was always of Indian heritage, and she was only promoting Indian heritage.”

His comments have drawn criticism for attempting to undermine Harris’s identity and her appeal to a diverse voter base. Trump continued his racially charged remarks by stating, “I didn’t know she was Black until a number of years ago, when she happened to turn Black, and now she wants to be known as Black.”

Despite the meteoric backlash, Donald Trump did not withdraw his comments. He continued to stand by his controversial statements, further fueling the debate and aggravating the probe surrounding his remarks. Instead, he escalated the controversy by sharing a picture on social media highlighting Kamala Harris’ “Indian heritage,” further fueling the debate and drawing widespread criticism for his disharmonious behaviour.

Trump took to Truth Social to share an old photo of Kamala Harris, adding fuel to the ongoing controversy. He captioned the post with, “Thank you Kamala for the nice picture you sent from many years ago! Your warmth, friendship, and love of your Indian Heritage are very much appreciated.” His comments have further inflamed the debate, as critics accuse him of using racially compassionless tactics to undermine Harris’s identity and her connection to the African American community.

Kamala Harris proudly identifies as biracial, reflecting her diverse heritage. Her mother, Shyamala Gopalan, was of Indian ancestry, while her father, Donald Jasper Harris, was Jamaican. Kamala Harris, now the first Asian-American president in U.S. history, has generated significant eagerness for her candidacy, particularly among Black voters and young people. Her entry into the 2024 presidential race has invigorated these key demographics, who are also the target of Trump’s efforts to expand his appeal.

As the November 5 presidential election approaches, Harris’s candidacy has gained friction, with recent opinion polls indicating that she has shrunk the gap with her Republican rival, Donald Trump. This shift in the race comes amid Trump’s controversial remarks, which have further reinforced the competition.

In response to Donald Trump’s remarks about her racial identity, Kamala Harris has firmly addressed the former president, stating that the American people “deserve better.” She emphasised that the current election represents a choice between two distinct visions for the country, accusing Trump and his campaign of attempting to take the nation “backwards.” Harris’s counterstatement underscores her commitment to advancing a more inclusive and forward-thinking agenda in contrast to Trump’s divisive eloquence.
