The family of the victim is alleging that the boy had faced excessive harassment prior to committing suicide. The Circle Officer (CO) Pradeep Kumar Tripathi said that the police registered a case with the connection to the suicide.
A boy named Aditya has reportedly committed suicide after being harassed for long in the village, so cases have been registered against the respective parties by the Uttar Pradesh police.
According to ОС Pradeep Kumar Tripathi, “Aditya hanged himself, and a case has been registered in PS Kaptanganj. A case has been lodged under the relevant sections…Motive is assumed due to some mutual bickering.”
However, the family of the victim has charged that Aditya was harassed hard before his taking the extreme step. The minor boy, as told by his uncle-Vijay Kumar-was called to the village birthday party and there assaulted.
“He was invited to a birthday party in the village. We don’t know if it was all pre-planned, but he was stripped naked and beaten and even urinated on. When we went to the Police Station to file a complaint, our complaint wasn’t registered,” the victim’s uncle alleged.
Vijay further alleged that they were not allowed to complain initially. “The incident took place on December 20, and we came to know about it the next day. Aditya returned home late that night and narrated the pain to my family the next morning. For three days, we tried to get our complaint registered, but the authorities refused. They harassed him again and again, leading to his suicide.”
Family’s Statement:
The young boy was traumatized, went back home, told his parents about the incident, and then hanged himself.
The grieving family took the body to a nearby police station, demanding immediate action. They later claimed that the authorities initially did not register a case or take any action.
The family then carried the boy’s body to the Basti SP office, where they protested by sitting in. It took agitation for several hours before the police finally registered a case and said they would respond.
The mother of the boy accused the police of being corrupt in order to protect the people involved by not acting promptly. Meanwhile, the boy’s uncle stated that, to this day, he still did not understand why the victim was attacked; all he doubted was that prior animosity could have existed.
Pradeep Kumar Tripathi, at the Basti DSP’s office, substantiated that a case had been filed on the basis of a family complaint. The postmortem examination of the victim’s body had also been conducted.
“We shall ensure strict action against the culprits,” was Tripathi’s reassurance.
