The “largest” B.R. Ambedkar statue outside India is set to be unveiled at Maryland, a megacity that borders West Virginia and Washington DC, in USA on October 14, the organisers have said.
A Tribute to Champion of Equality and Social Justice
B.R. Ambedkar (1891-1956) was a prominent Indian jurist, social reformer and architect of the Indian Constitution. He championed the rights of marginalized communities particularly Dalits (formerly “untouchable”). Ambedkar fought against caste discrimination and advocated for equality, education, and political representation for all. His legacy remains influential in India’s pursuit of social justice.
The Monumental ‘Statue of Equality’
The world famous sculptor and artist Ram Sutar, who is also asscoiated with the building of the statue of Sardar Patel installed in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Sutar has himself designed the sculptor of Babasaheb.
The statue of Ambedkar, the crucial mastermind of India’s Constitution, is part of the Ambedkar International Center (AIC) being erected on 13 acres of land in Accokeek megacity of Maryland. Just 21 miles away from the White House, it’s a replica of the world’s largest 125 floored Ambedkar statue unveiled in Hyderabad lately, according to the organisers.
“This is the largest sculpture of Babasaheb which will be installed as a part of the Ambedkar Memorial being constructed at this center,” said the AIC.
A Global Gathering of Ambedkarites
“Many representatives of Ambedkarite movement and his followers are anticipated to attend the event from across the USA and other corridors of the world,” it said.
Honoring Babasaheb’s Ideals
According to the AIC, this memento will serve to spread Babasaheb’s ideologies and pedagogy and showcase a symbol of equivalency and moral rights.
Representatives from different countries are anticipated to attend the statue unveiling on October 14.
Artistic Performances and Homage
The unveiling will be held at 10 am, which will be followed by an event of artistic performances organised to authenticate the great unearthing of the magnific statue and pay homage to the great leader who devoted his life to fight against injustice, the statement added.
