The time has come to put together inspiration for fairytale ballgowns . The Costume Institute Of the Metropolitan Museum Of Art unveiled the theme for Met Gala,2024 to be held on May 6th
Step into the world where fashion dreams awaken . The Met Gala 2024 is set to dazzle with the theme, Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion. Revolving around treasured garments and revelation of precious masterpieces that have never been seen before. Around 250 items garnered from the Costume Institute’s permanent collection will be displayed in a series of galleries organised on the theme of nature
Max Hollein, Marina Kellen French Director and CEO said that the motive behind the theme
is pushing the scope of imagination and learning about the history of multiple facets of work to acquire deeper appreciation of its beauty
Featuring English – Elizabethan Era bodice from seventeenth century to 21st century work by designers like Stella McCartney, Phillip Lim and Connor Ives
What Does “Sleeping Beauties Of Fashion”Imply
The theme mainly focuses on evolution and reawakening of fashion over the years and sensorial appreciation of fashion. Andrew Bolton and Wendy Yu , Curator in Charge of The Costume Institute said that the exhibition will be scrutinised on 50 significant pieces from The Met’s permanent collection . Owing to the fact that they’re too fragile and delicate to be worn again, they’re termed as ‘Sleeping Beauties’. Instead of performing their original worn function , they will be transformed through display. The illusion technique called Pepper’s ghost will be used to revivify some through animation ,light projection or soundscaping etc
Many of these fragile pieces will be exhibited alongside contemporary and modern day items, showcasing design evolution . 250 items will be exhibited , across 400 years of history
Andrew Bolton further added that the exhibition will be put together around three zones of “Land,Sea and Sky” and AI , CGI will be used to display the exhibit
What will the guests wear
Guests will be seen wearing contemporary pieces revolving around archival garments. Exploration of past with an emphasis of history . A final dress code has not been announced . We can expect Alexander Mcqueen , Dior’s Junon dress ,Vintage Couture and more
The gruelling nature of the theme may intimidate some. Like a black tulle dress covered with embroidered blackbirds , made long ago with a historical relevance

Past Pattern Of Themes
2023
Last year’s theme was “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line Of Beauty”. The guests were dressed to honour Karl, one of the most well known designers across the globe . He worked for famous brands like Chanel and Fendi.

“Gilded Glamour” was another theme aiming at acknowledgement of fashion’s role throughout American history
2021
“American Independence “ . This theme was meant to honour American fashion commemorating the Costume Institute 75th anniversary
