In a roadshow organised for the Global Investors Summit in London, UK, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami held meetings with various industrialists and investors. By the third day, i.e., the 27th of September, he had already signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) worth Rs 9,000 crore. In a statement given on the same day, CM Dhami expressed that they had made more than 27 policies, and if investment were to come to Uttarakhand, “the youth will get employment and there will be growth.”
The roadshow
Attended by more than 250 delegates from the fields of education, health, manufacturing, IT, etc., the roadshow was a four-day event from the 25-28th of September, 2023. Chief Minister Dhami recognised Birmingham’s industrial significance and expressed his gratitude to all the Indians living in London and Birmingham, as well as all the residents of Uttarakhand for their outpouring of love and support. He proceeded by inviting all the investors present at the roadshow to the Global Investors Summit 2023, which is to be held in Uttarakhand in December. The CM said that the theme of the Global Investor Summit has been kept as “Peace to Prosperity”, and promised them full cooperation from the Uttarakhand government.
The Chief Minister also noted that according to the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, through the Uttrakhan Global Investors Summit, Uttarakhand will also be ensuring its contribution towards making India a 5 trillion economy.
Agreements worth thousands of crore
Under Dhami’s leadership, the Uttarakhand government signed quite a few MoUs. One of the agreements, worth Rs 2,000 crore, was with Agar Technology. This Agreement showed Agar Technology’s commitment to invest in lithium battery plants within Uttarakhand.
Earlier during his visit to the UK, Dhami had also entered into a MoU worth Rs 3,800 crore with industrial group Kayan Jet in London. This would involve the development of skiing resorts and cable car projects in the famous tourist areas of Devbhoomi, Auli, Dayara Bugyal and Munsiyari.
Also, an MoU amounting to Rs 1,000 crore was signed with Fira Barcelona, a prestigious European group that deals in convention centres and event management, while also specialising in the organisation of world-class business fairs.
Additionally, two MoUs were also signed with Ease My Trip, which pledged to create a state-backed online travel agency (OTA). Not only will this initiative put Uttarakhand on the map as a global tourism destination, but it will also generate a substantial number of employment opportunities.
Key Attendees
The MoUs were signed on behalf of the state government by Secretary Industries Vinay Shankar Pandey. During the meetings, notable dignitaries like Secretary to the Chief Minister, Dr. R. Meenakshi Sundaram; Director-General of Industries, Rohit Meena; alongside various other members of the official delegation were present.
