Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show makes Comeback after 6 Years

After a six-year hiatus, the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is set to make a grand return, bringing back the glitz, glamour, and angel wings that once defined the iconic event. The fashion show, which began in 1995 and quickly became a staple in the fashion industry, is known for its unique blend of fashion, entertainment, and fantasy.

On Wednesday, 15th may the company announced the return of the iconic fashion show via Instagram post, with a caption saying- “We’ve read the comments and heard you. The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is- BACK- and will reflect who we are today, plus everything you know and love—the glamour, runway, wings, musical entertainment, and more! Stay tuned…it only gets more iconic from here.”

There has been no particular date announced for the Fashion Show yet, the company did share in release that they will show who the brand today is.

Fan’s Anticipation of Years

Since the minutes of posting fans of the show and the brand have been excited for the Fall 2024 Fashion Show. Within hours of posting, it gained more that 78000 likes on Instagram.

Some fan commented- “I knew! Please put on an incredible show again, with wonderful wings and Angels, of course with a lot of diversity from today’s world, but don’t miss what made the Victoria’s Secret fashion shows magical. SO EXCITED!”

Many fans demanded to bring back the top models of Victoria Secret- Ariana, Gissele, Alessandra, Naomi Campbell etc. One of the fans commented on the post saying the same- WE NEED THE QUEENS. GIVE US GISELLE AND ADRIANA.”

The Hiatus Controversy

Back in 2019, the show was cancelled due to controversial period for the brand externally and internally. The decision to halt the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in 2019 came amid declining viewership and growing criticism. The brand faced backlash for not being inclusive of all body types and was called out for its lack of diversity. The company which was subsidiary under L Brands, cancelled the show saying that it needs a shift in marketing strategies.

At that time, the Brand was dealing with falling sales for pricey lingerie coupled with growing criticism for outdated brand image for not being inclusive of all body types. In 2021, the L Brand spit into two public units, Bath & Body Works and Victoria Secret.

The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show has always been more than just a lingerie Fashion Show. It has always proved its ability to transcend the typical runway show. It’s a high-octane production where bejewelled lingerie and elaborate angel wings are just part of the allure. Over the years, the show has features performances by A-list musicians like Rhianna, The Weekend, Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber. It has managed to make itself one of the most anticipated events in the pop culture by featuring appearances of supermodels like Alessandra Ambrosio, Adriana Lima, Gisele Bundchen and many more.

2024 Brand’s Vision

As the brand prepares for its 2024 comeback, it promises a show that will reflect contemporary values while retaining the elements that fans have come to love. The show aims to be more inclusive, celebrating diversity and body positivity. While details are still under wraps, the brand has said that it will include everything from the iconic wings to musical entertainment, with a renewed focus on who they are today.

The first Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show took place on August 1, 1995, at the Plaza Hotel in New York City. It was a simpler affair compared to the extravagant productions that would follow, featuring seventeen models and focusing on the brand’s lingerie. While it was on Hiatus since 2019, the company released “The Tour ’23,” which was a documentary that premiered in September 2023 on Prime Video.
