Actor Vijay’s Debut
On October 27, actor Vijay announced his debut in politics through his rally in Vikravandi of Villapuram district. The party’s first state conference has happened today. What does this say about Tamil Nadu politics?
Another actor in Tamil Nadu has begun his political journey. MGR and Jaylalitha’s political leadership and prominence has laid its way for the actors in interest to be part of politics in Tamilnadu. Vijay’s entry into politics with a new party opens a new chapter of Tamilnadu’s politics. His journey as actor has been tremendous. His fan base is quite large and people from all over the world have enjoyed his action and appreciated his work. However, politics is different and his success in it always a question mark.
2026 Assembly Elections
Vijay announced on February 2, 2024, that he will contest in 2026 assembly elections in Tamilnadu. Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam is the name of the political party launched by him. The party flag and anthem have been released on August 22, 2024. He states that the party welcomes power sharing system if parties contesting the 2026 elections are willing to join, they will embrace an alliance.
Political Agenda of TVK party
According to Indian Express, vijay’s and his political party’s (Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam) ideology is driven by five social reformers as their photos have been displayed in the rally conducted by he actor today. Periyar E.V. Ramasamy, K. Kamaraj, Babasaheb Ambedkar, Velu Nachiar and Anjalai Ammal are those reformers. The TVK’s political agenda and principles, aligns with the values learned from the above reformers, i.e. secular, socially just and women centric goals..etc. He in the conference stated that his party’s ideology differs from the long running dravidian model. He criticesd the current politics running on this model by pointing their corrupt practices.
Conclusion
Tamil nadu’ politics have been mostly driven by Dravidian ideology, there has been a need for new political agendas and ideologies, which addresses the long-lasting discrimination based issues within the state. This need shows the change TVK will make if elected in upcoming elections. Vijay’s journey as an actor has begun from failures to blooming success. With such a type of life lesson, he is expected to survive through the political journey and make a position for himself in Tamil Nadu’s Politics.
