Vikrant Massey starrer ‘12th Fail released on Friday with a surprising opening day collection of Rs. 1 Crore net at the Box Office. The Vidhu Vinod Chopra directorial came out to be as a surprise to the trade due to the collection net at the Box Office.
Vikrant Massey starrer 12th Fail got its release in barely 600 screens and limited shows, However it literally and surprisingly matched up with the collection of rival film ‘Tejas’ that has a worldwide release and greater appeal .
On 27th October, 2023 at 10 pm the film made over 75 lakhs as net collection through top national chains Cinepolis and PVR Inox. With favorable reviews and two open weeks, the film has a substantially greater chance of making it up in two digits over two weeks.
Although the film is apt for digital viewing and in an era where the audiences prefer to watch films in theatres post the pandemic era. 12th fail film is making its own place and creating ripples in the history of Indian cinema. Although for the makers of the film, the collection number may not seem to be a matter of pride but given the expectations ,the film has come out to be a surprise for the makers and the audiences as well.
Other competing films that released on the 27th of October were ‘Tejas’, an aerial action starring Kangana Ranaut in the lead, ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ starring Leonardo Di Caprio and Robert De Niro also made a net of 55-60 lakhs in its limited release.
Tejas made a net collection of Rs 1.10 Crore on Day 1 at the Box office with unfavorable reviews while film ‘Leo’ made a net collection of 1.15 crores in its second week. The Global collection of Leo has surpassed the Rs 500 crore benchmark and made its way into the second week with favorable reviews. It is the most preferred Dussehra release, followed by Tiger Nageswara Rao, Bhagavanth Kesari, Ganapath and Yaariyan 2.
Talking about the story of the film , Vikrant Massey starrer 12th Fail is the real life story of IPS officer Manoj Kumar Sharma who belongs to a small town in Chambal , who makes an idea to try his hand at education, in particularly trying hi luck at attempting the UPSC examination where millions of students strive hard to make a mark and try their destiny.
The Vidhu Vinod Chopra film with Vikrant Massey in the lead deals with failures ,success and multiple attempts of Manoj Kumar Sharma who manages to clear his UPSC exam with flying colors in spite of failing in his 12th class exams.
Vikrant Massey who plays the lead role in the film began his career as a television actor in the renowned tv saga, ‘Balika Vadhu’ and got his recognition through his exceptional acting skills and performances in different challenging roles such as in ‘Criminal Justice’.
Vikrant Massey says he has to struggle a lot with his weight as the script demanded a sudden drastic weight gain and loss. He says he had to lose 8-9 kg in a span of 3 months and the challenging part was to gain back the same lost weight in a span of 1.5 months for the shoot.
He also mentions having to make a drastic change to his look in order to make the character look appealing and convincing on the screen to the audiences. He literally had to sun burn his skin to get the tanned rural look on his face. He had to literally tone down his skin for the real look.
More so, Vidhu Vinod Chopra being a perfectionist, the film was shot with real students and at real locations, since he did not want anything to be looking like a made up thing.
