Rahul Gandhi, the Congress leader, intends to retain his Raebareli Lok Sabha seat. In the meantime, Wayanad will see the debut of his sister, Priyanka Gandhi, in the Lok Sabha election. Mallikarjun Kharge, the chief of the Congress, made the announcement after consulting with the leaders of the party.

Following his two-seat victory in the recently ended elections, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will take the oath of office as the Lok Sabha MP from Raebareli. Making her debut in the Lok Sabha poll from Wayanad is his sister, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge made the announcement after consulting with senior party officials.

“Rahul Gandhi won two seats in the Lok Sabha, but he is required by law to give up one seat. Rahul Gandhi will resign from the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat and retain the Raebareli seat. We have determined that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will run for the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency in the upcoming elections,” declared Kharge.

Gandhi had defeated Communist Party of India-Marxist candidate Annie Raja, securing the Wayanad seat by a margin of 3,64,422 votes. He also defeated Dinesh Pratap Singh of the BJP by a margin of 3,90,030 votes, securing Raebareli, the party’s stronghold. In 2019, Wayanad gained entrance into the Lok Sabha following Gandhi’s defeat in Amethi to former Union Minister Smriti Irani.

“I feel a strong emotional bond with Raebareli and Waynand. I served as a Wayanad MP for the previous five years. I appreciate everyone’s kindness and support. Although Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will run for office in Wayanad, I will also travel there on occasion. It was a difficult choice, but I am glad to be able to represent Raebareli again because we have a long history together,” the MP-designate stated on Sunday.

Being able to speak for Wayanad makes me very happy, and I promise not to let his absence be felt. In order to please everyone and serve as a decent representation, I promise to work hard and do my best. I can’t break the bond I have with Raebareli and Amethi since we are very old. I’ll support my brother in Raebareli as well. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra continued, “We will both be at Raebareli and Wayanad.
