Final outcomes of COP28: much accomplished but still insufficient?

CONFERENCE OF PARTIES' 28TH SUMMIT RECENTLY CONCLUDED ITS MEETING IN DUBAI.

In an act of international solidarity, negotiators from around 200 Parties gathered in Dubai

it is an evaluation of each nation's actions in the battle against climate change, is the primary goal of Cop28 

important takeaways from cop28

FOSSIL FUEL PHASEOUT: To achieve net zero by 2050, the final agreement required nations to "transition away" from fossil fuels 

Tripling of renewable energy: Countries are encouraged to double annual gains in energy efficiency and triple the installed capacity of clean energy sources worldwide 

Phase down of coal:  limiting the use of coal-fired powerplants and using in-built carbon capture and storage facility 

Methane emission cuts:  being the most widespread greenhouse gas apart from CO2, reduction of methane can be of significant benefit  

Loss and Damage funds: Countries made funding commitments of $800 million to support developing countries

Global goal on adaptation: Improving global adaptability, boosting resilience, and lowering susceptibility to climate change

  Food for thought Countries will do their bit, but how we as individuals will contribute will be a game changer!
