WhatsApp improves its calling experience

Meta-owned messaging app announced on June 13 that it is going to roll out three significant features to its platform in the coming days. This mainly includes making calls better and bigger and the updates will be available to iPhone, Android, PCs, and the web. 

Jan Koum founded WhatsApp, now a popular messaging app worldwide in 2009. 

In 2014, Facebook acquired the company for $22 billion in a combination of stock and cash.

In 2018 Jan Koum resigned as the the CEO of WhatsApp.

As of 2023, the instant messaging platform now has 2.78 B active users worldwide. Furthermore, it is the 8th most downloaded app from the Google Play station. 

This app is available in 180 countries in 60 different languages.

However, its usage has been banned in six countries: Cuba, Iran, Syria, North Korea, the UAE, and China.

The WhatsApp business launched in 2018 to make international calls free, multimedia call free.

A look at the Previous update :

In 2015 this platform included a calling feature and it worked consistently to improve by updating it with new features. For example, it included group calls, a multi-platform support feature, and video calls since then. 

In 2023, it announced screen-sharing support.

Updates to be launched in the coming weeks:

Audio and Screen Sharing:

This new feature will enable people to watch their favorite shows or videos with families and friends. Users can also share audio and screen while watching the videos with families.

More Participants in video calling: This time users will be able to have group calls with up to 32 users across all the devices.

Speaker Highlight:

This third update will allow users to easily identify who is talking specifically when there are many people in the group call. Previously it was difficult to identify who was talking But this time it would be easier to track who was talking in the group call.

The company added “They will continue to update WhatsApp to provide the users with quality calls in any part of the world”

WhatsApp will integrate MLow codec:

Its parent company Meta has recently launched MLow codec. This codec makes calls made through mobile devices clear by improving echo and noise cancellation.

This in turn would enhance the audio, and video call quality as well as the reliability of the call.

The company also added that video calls will be faster for the companies with faster internet connectivity. But the codec would make Audio crisper even for those having network issues.
