Boney Kapoor has backed many films as a producer in the industry , such Hum Paanch, woh Saat Din, Loafer, Khushi and Mili, Sirf tum that were remakes of Tamil and Malayalam films in Hindi.
Once in a Rediff interview in the year 2003 ,Boney Kapoor had revealed why he got South Directors to direct his movies and that his remakes of the Tamil or Malayalam film is never actually a remake as he knows what exactly it has in store.
Boney Kapoor on remake of South films
Boney said that the South films he remade were never actually a remake. Films like Beta and Judaai indeed had many changes in them as compared to South films. Even the film Khushi was quite different from the origin. Films like Pukaar and Company were also not remakes.
Back then when Kyun ho gaya na and Run were to be released, Boney Kapoor had mentioned in the interview that Run was indeed a remake of a Tamil movie but Kyun ho gaya na was not a remake.
He had mentioned then that he would indeed love to work with renowned filmmakers like Karan Johar, Yash Chopra, Aditya Chopra and Sooraj Barjatya . But he said that they make films for their own companies whereas when Boney is making films he is in full total control right from the beginning to the end.
Boney Kapoor called remakes assuring
Boney Kapoor also once stated that the reason he prefers to do remakes is because he knows what is in store. It is like going to a hotel or a cafe where you already know the menu prior. And that is what makes remakes as assuring films.
Other filmmakers like L V Naidu, Reddy etc too made remakes in the past and many of them even got the Dadasaheb Phalke awards. He even said that his father too was comfortable with the remake of his film Shehzada starring Rakhee and Rajesh Khanna.
Boney Kapoor further added that in fact he began his career in the industry with two remakes i.e Woh Saat Din and Hum Paanch.
Boney Kapoor’s remakes that were South Indian Films
Boney Kapoor produced several films that were originally South films. Hum Pannch was picked up from the Paduvaralli Pandavaru, a Kannada film, woh saat din from tamil film titled Andha saat Naatkal, Loafer was a remake of a Tamil film titled Velai Kidaiichuduchu,
He also produced Sirf Tum which was Kushi, Run was again a Tamil remake of film Run and Mili was a remake of a Malayalam film titled Helen. Such has been his journey with remakes.
Boney Kapoor’s recent films
Boney Kapoor was recently seen playing a character role in the Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor starrer Tu Jhoothi Mai Makkar. His next production is a sports biopic starring Ajay Devgan and the film is named as Maidaan.
Bollywood’s most talented actor Ajay Devgan is all set to play the role of a sports coach in the film and is playing the character named Syed Abdul Rehman. The film also has other artistes such Gajraj Rao, Priyamani and bengali actor Rudraneil Ghosh. However the official date of the film’s release is yet awaited.
