Regrettably, CBS has yet to unveil the release date for Young Sheldon Season 7. Originally slated to resume its Thursday slot in the fall of 2023, aligning with its regular schedule, the delay was attributed to the writers’ strike starting on May 2 and the subsequent actors’ strike commencing on July 14.
The status of filming before the onset of the writers’ strike remains uncertain. Regardless of whether any filming had commenced, CBS opted to postpone the release of the seventh season. This suggests a potential scarcity of content, making it challenging to broadcast the initial episodes that typically lead into a December hiatus before the show resumes in January.
Fortunately, on September 27, 2023, the writers’ strike concluded, allowing the writers to resume their work. The agreement was reached between the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), representing major studios. With the strike officially over, the Young Sheldon writers’ rooms have been operational since the week of October 2. The new contract is valid from September 25, 2023, to May 1, 2026.
On November 9, 2023, the actors strike concluded as well. The Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) and the AMPTP reached a tentative agreement for a three-year contract. While the guild still needs to vote on the agreement, the resolution signifies the end of the actors strike, paving the way for the resumption of filming.
CBS has yet to announce the resumption date for filming the new season. Nevertheless, studios are actively working to expedite the return of specific shows to their regular schedules. This urgency is driven by the approaching Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, which will impact filming schedules due to actors taking time off even after returning post-strikes. According to Deadline, there’s a possibility that filming for Young Sheldon Season 7 could commence in late November, following the Thanksgiving holiday on November 27.
While the thrilling development of writers and actors returning to work is indeed promising, it implies that Young Sheldon Season 7 won’t make a return this year. Optimistically, there is anticipation for a potential release date between January and March 2024, aligning with the timeframe that many networks targeted as they adjusted their fall TV schedules for this year.
