Police suspected this incident to be a murder case and said that the woman was beaten up before she was murdered. The deceased woman has been identified as Zarina Utkirovna.
The victim arrived in Delhi on a tourist visa before she took her flight to Silicon Valley on March 5. She checked into Jagadish Hotel located near the headquarters of the Bangalore Development Authority. She was given a room on the second floor where she was staying.
Gaurav Singh, the hotel manager, filed a police complaint which said that a broker named Rahul Kumar led the Uzbek woman to their hotel and she was allotted room number 219 on the second floor up till 16th March. The room was booked by another person for her.
Suspicion, discovery, and filing of the case
She reportedly paid the day’s rent of Rs. 5,500 to the hotel staff sometime in the noon on the day she was discovered dead and after that, she was not spotted anywhere nearby. Later in the evening, the broker phoned the hotel manager and informed him that Zarina was not responding to her phone calls. He urged the hotel staff to have a look into the matter and see if everything was alright.
A housekeeper told the hotel manager after checking the room from outside that there was a board written ‘Do not Disturb’ on it outside the door and the woman lodging in the room did not open the door even after multiple bell ringings.
The broker further insisted the hotel manager to open the door of the room with a master key and check on her. The manager and the room boy found the woman lying dead on her bed with her body gone cold.
The Hotel Manager then informed the Seshadripuram police who lodged a case of “mysterious death”.
Possible cause of death
The body of the Uzbek woman was sent to the Bowring Hospital in Shivaji Nagar. An autopsy will be carried out to find out the exact cause of death and the time when she died. According to the authorities, the deceased might have been choked to death. There were also marks of injury on the face of the victim and her nose was bleeding.
Investigation going on
The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team and a dog unit conducted an in-depth investigation of the room where the woman had been lodging hoping to find any leads regarding the murder case. The police are also going through the CCTV footage and the register of the hotel to make sure if anyone had visited the guest on March 13, the day she was killed.
The CCTV footage has disclosed that three men entered the victim’s room individually at separate times since evening on the day of the murder. First, she was visited by a person at 7 pm which was followed by two staff members entering the room.
