YouTube – a online streaming platform to lay-off nearly up to 100 jobs

Youtube can be said as an online streaming website or platform, which can be accessed by every person all over the world. It was founded in the year 2005. The platform was founded by Steve Chan. Youtube’s headquarters is situated in California, United States (U.S.)

Google let off a thousand individuals, and now YouTube, an online platform  is getting also  affected as well.  One hundred workers from the operational and creative administration departments have been let go by the video-sharing website. Notification of the elimination of these roles was sent to the corresponding staff members.

Based on an email seen by The New York Times, the multinational technology company informed employees from YouTube’s business and content leadership groups on Wednesday afternoon, January 17 2024, that the  jobs of the employees had been terminated.

 According to a source with awareness of the number, YouTube, which is the most popular streaming website in the entire globe, hired 7,173 individuals as of Tuesday.

The goal of YouTube’s operational simplification is to enhance scale for global expansion, which is particularly significant given that the platform’s revenue from advertisements has been declining over the past twelve months. 

YouTube has responded to the issue by taking action against ad-blocking software, urging viewers to view advertisements and remove plugins, and introducing YouTube Premium, which serves as a membership service.

Youtube  to issue a statement based on the recent Lay-offs

Mary Ellen Coe, the top administrative officer of YouTube, sent an email to staff members saying, “We’ve taken the difficult choice to remove certain responsibilities and say farewell to certain members of our colleagues.” The statement stated that “by the conclusion of the working day today, anyone in America” and the Asia-Pacific area “who may or may not be affected will be contacted.”

Reorganisation of YouTube’s audio and assistance departments is also apparently planned. Coe explained that the goal of these adjustments is to improve YouTube’s operations in a company-wide memo. 

She has also  refused to disclose the number of affected employees . “As we have noticed in recent years, our contributor population is growing and changing, ranging from our most seasoned artists to a fresh wave of inexperienced creators making their own YouTube premieres,” Coe told.

We must make sure we are managing the company efficiently and satisfying the demands of all of the people who use Youtube as it grows, Coe said to the staff. The possibility of submitting applications for alternative positions at YouTube will be provided for employees who have been laid off. 

“We’re going be ready to assist the employees as the employees can  consider your next move. Each of your contributions has been a cherished and important part within our team,” Coe had  remarked.

Head for corporate relations at YouTube Andrea Faville had  stated that , “We’re sensibly putting our  money into  Youtube’s greatest objectives and the major possibilities ahead.” In the second quarter of 2023, a number of Google teams carried out layoffs and reorganisations, and “some teams are still continuing to make such types of managerial adjustments, which mainly  include specific position removals globally.”

Google’s CEO to issue a statement on the recent lay – offs

Sundar Pichai, known as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and the founder of Google LLC, told staff members in an announcement on a Wednesday that their jobs should expect more reductions for the rest of the calendar year, however not as severe as the significant layoffs that occurred in the previous calendar year.

The organisation had stated that as of the last day of September, it recruited  over 182,000 people,which became   a significant rise from 119,000 during  the final month of the year  2019. It was roughly a year earlier that Google began to lay-off its employees  by around six percent, or twelve thousand workers.
