Zika Virus – Here are 5 Deadly complications

Zika Virus is spread mostly through the bite of Aedes Species Mosquito or can be spread through sexual interaction with the infected person. The virus was first reported in monkeys in year 1947 Uganda, Africa then in year 1952 it somehow made a safe spot in human body and India reported its 1st zika virus case in Kerala.

This is said to be one of the dangerous virus after covid 19 virus One of the worst scenario, birth defects like microcephaly, intracranial calcifications, cortical or cerebral atrophy and optic nerve abnormalities is associated with zika virus infection.

The virus effects the womb in worst possible way. Some other serious cases like  Guillain-Barré syndrome , myelitis in adults and children.

The symptoms appears mild and sometimes asymptomatic, mean the person infected by zika virus might not know that a virus is manifesting inside the body. The most concerning factor is long term health consequences. As mentioned earlier zika virus is associated with congenital deformities.

Microcephaly is a neurological condition in which the infant’s head is much more smaller than the relative body and age.

SYMPTOMS OF ZIKA VIRUS

  1. Severe Headache
  2. Severe joint pain
  3. Swelling in Eyes
  4. Fever
  5. Malaise
  6. Muscle pain
  7. Microcephaly (In infants)

PREVENTION.

Zika virus can take 2 life at once. Not only mother but the baby is equally in danger. Once the virus enters the body, there is no vaccine that could stop the virus

The virus spreads through –

  1. Mosquito bite – So keep yourself covered throughout the day.
    • Use mosquito repellent
    • Use Nets on windows to prevent mosquito from entering
    • Since mosquito breeds on stagnant water, keep your surrounding clean and dry
    • Avoid wearing dark color clothes as it may attract mosquito
  2. The virus can spread through transmission of blood. If you are doubtful- Don’t take the blood, it can take your life instead of giving one
  3. Practicing safe sexual intercourse is recommended. Use protection like Condoms and Dental dams.
  4. Awareness is the key, keep educating people about this deadly virus and how it can be easily preventable just by these 3 steps written above.
