Zomato Unveils a Convenient Feature; The Internet Reacts

0

The CEO of Zomato has announced a fantastic new feature which promises customers that the exact change will be received in the case of Cash on Delivery (COD).

Indian food delivery giants like Swiggy and Zomato are constantly trying to make new offers related to their premium subscription services and release new features that attract more customers to their apps.

The Feature for Handling Change

Deepinder Goyal, the CEO of Zomato, takes to X (formerly known as Twitter) to announce that “Starting today, our customers can pay delivery partners in cash and ask for the balance amount to be added instantly to their Zomato Money account.” This instant balance feature is especially useful because in most cases of Cash on Delivery, the delivery agents often ask for the customer’s Google Pay or similar UPI account in order to return the change. This could prove to be a hassle if the customer does not have a bank account linked to the many UPI apps available.

Another added benefit of the feature is that the change that gets credited to the customer’s Zomato Money account can, not only, be used for future delivery orders through the app but also for the ‘Dining’ option on the app. The latter is a convenient option to obtain offers when dining out at restaurants. While it is more prevalent for their subscription service, Zomato Pro, regular customers can also access some of the offers at many of the popular restaurants.

Giving Credit Where Credit is Due

Deepinder Goyal, in the same X post, credits BigBasket, a prominent Indian online grocery delivery service, for the inspiration for this feature. The CEO stated, “Thank you

@bigbasket_com for the inspiration for this solution,” and proceeds to thank Zomato’s delivery partners, three of whom are working as the company’s product managers, for pushing for the development of this feature.

The Internet Reacts

While the convenience of the new feature is one to talk about, some X users took to the platform to praise Deepinder Goyal for publicly acknowledging the inspiration given to them by one of their competitors. A user wrote, “Nice to see acknowledge their competition’s Idea before implementing it..Much respect…and that’s how it should be done.” Another user wittily replied to Goyal’s post with, “How to “eat” your competition? Get them onboarded with you.”
