Bumrah, the main pacer for the Indian side did not panic to attack the Aussie bowlers with bat along with Akash Deep. The 39-runs partnership between the two saved India from the follow-on threat. The Indian dugout celebrated the partnership with cheers which caught the attention of some criticisms.
Team India’s Performance
A total of 445 was set by the Aussies in their first. On the other hand India could only make a total of 252 which made them trail by 193 runs before the stumps. At the end of day 4 according to the conditions the game seems to end in a draw.
While bowling Jasprit Bumrah took 6 wickets with an economy of 2.71 and despite such a huge total made by the Aussies the Indians praised him. Steve Smith and Travis Head’s century became the highlights of the Australian innings followed by Bumrah’s spell.
India’s innings brought some hope in the beginning when KL Rahul took the charge with the bat but later the winning spirit calmed down. Later Jadeja played a knock of 77 which helped the team to make the gap less. In the end Bumrah and Akash Deep’s small partnership paved a way of hope for the other players and fans.
KL Rahul said, “I was padding up to bat once again when Aakashdeep and Bumrah were batting, but then they put on a remarkable fight“. This is the first time ever where both the number 10 and 11 batter hit a six against Australia in a test.
Bumrah when asked about his batting abilities, says “ You should use Google and see who has got the most number of runs in a single over in Test “
Indian Team’s Celebration
A user on X says “ Team India is literally celebrating after avoiding a follow-on”. Netizens have questioned the players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma cheering from the dugout along with the coach Gautam Gambhir.
Criticism one – People criticised by stating the fact that whatever Bumrah and Akash did on the field was supposed to be done by the players cheering from the dressing room.
Criticism two – Fans trolled the players who were celebrating after the team avoided a possible follow-on. Netizens say the celebrations remind them of the time when India won the series in Australia the last time.
This test might be a series deciding match, hence the players definitely knew if they could pull a draw by any chance then the remaining matches may create series winning scenarios.
Criticisms on Rohit Sharma have also blown up after the fourth day as he has fewer runs than most of the other batters and even bowlers of the team.
Ricky Ponting: “I still don’t understand why the team left out Ravi Jadeja for the first 2 Tests.“
When Ravindra Jadeja got a chance in the third test he scored a 77 which led the fans to question the coach. Gautam Gambhir is being condemned for not including him in the last two matches.
