Amit Shah’s remark

During the winter session in the ongoing debate about the Constitution, Amit Shah’s remark stirred a protest from the opposition. He said that it is like a fashion now to say Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar. If opposition had taken God’s name instead, they would have gotten a place in heaven so many times. (Abhi ek fashion ho gaya hai—Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar.) Itna naam agar bhagwaan ka lete to saat janmon tak swarg mil jata.

He regards opposition as hypocritical and goes on to criticize opposition’s moves. He said that the BJP is very happy that Congress is taking Ambedkar’s name, but he also mentions that Congress should also present their real sentiments towards him. He narrates the various incidents when the opposition failed to respect Ambedkar and didn’t move according to his principle.

Both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha witnessed a huge protest from the Congress after the remarks of Amit Shah, resulting in the adjournment of both the houses.

Reaction of other ministers

Indignant over the prevailing statements of Amit Shah, the opposition embarked on a protest, fervently calling for his resignation. On Wednesday, Amit Shah rejected the allegation, claiming that the Congress has twisted the statements for their own interest and are providing distorted facts.

Other political leaders also favored the resignation of Shah. RJD chief Lallu Prasad, during the interview, attacked the Union Minister over his remarks and said that he should not only resign from the post but also give up politics.

TMC Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee claimed that Amit Shah’s remarks were reflecting the BJP’s casteist and anti-Dalit mindset. The disrespect was not only the insult of Babasahed but also the millions of people who followed him and his ideas.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, in a press conference, called for Amit Shah’s apology and warned that there would be a widespread protest if Narendra Modi failed to remove Amit Shah from the post. He asserted that the opposition wouldn’t tolerate such an affront hurled at the Father of the Constitution.

Narendra Modi defending Shah

Addressing the controversy of Amit Shah’s remarks, PM Narendra Modi defended Amit Shah and criticized Congress for their rotten ecosystem, which always opposed Ambedkar and failed to give his portrait a prominent place in Parliament’s central hall. He also pointed out that most of the atrocities hurled at SC/STs occurred during the Congress time. He said that the Congress is involved in theatrics because they were not able to bear the facts presented by Shah, which exposed the opposition, leaving them stung and stunned.
