President-elect Donald Trump has announced Leavitt, a “highly effective communicator” to be the White House Press Secretary. Making history, the 27-year-old White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt is a key asset for Trump’s administration. At 29, Ron Ziegler, appointed by President Richard Nixon in 1969 held the previous record of the youngest White House Press Secretary.
The Associated Press reported, “I have the utmost confidence she will excel at the podium and help deliver our message to the American people as we Make America Great Again”. “Karoline is smart, tough, and has proven to be a highly effective communicator,” Trump said.
Karoline Leavitt is breaking all previous records
Leavitt began her political career as a summer intern in the White House Office of Presidential Correspondence before her senior year in college. After completing her senior year in college, she joined the White House Press Office as an assistant press secretary. Showcasing extreme loyalty and exceptional communication skills, she joined the office under Kayleigh McEnany during Trump’s first term.
Elise Stefanik, nominated as the US ambassador to the United Nations also gave credibility to Leavitt’s impactful contributions. She became the communications director for New York Representative Elise Stefanik post Trump’s defeat in his first term.
Leavitt Ran for Congress in New Hampshire’s First District
In 2022, preparing for her media and public speaking skills, Leavitt ran for Congress in New Hampshire’s First District. She won the Republican primary but was defeated by Democrat Chris Pappas.
Her active involvement and connection to Trump’s team go way back. She became a spokesperson for MAGA Inc., a pro-Trump super PAC, and eventually became a prominent voice in his 2024 campaign. Leavitt joined this 2024 campaign to lead communication and transition efforts.
Role of White House Press Secretary
The traditional role of the White House Press Secretary involved conducting daily briefings and posing as the administration’s public face. During the first term of 2017-2021, Trump had four different press secretaries bypassing all the norms and regulations and acting as his spokesperson through rallies and social media.
Leavitt also served as an assistant press secretary during Trump’s first tenure. And it was only after his defeat that she went on to work with Republican Representative Elise Stefanik.
