Competition in PL Becomes Tremendous : Liverpool on Top, Man City Out of Top 4

Gameweek 13 in the Premier League was anticipated to be a fascinating week but Man City couldn’t challenge Liverpool at any fronts of the game. Man City are now struggling to stay even in top 4 and all the eyes are now on the manager.

Pep Guardiola frustrated with the losing streak

Pep says “We’ll make a reset, I feel we are starting to build something” he is confident that City will make a comeback but what are they building? They already have a world class squad in terms of quality, just a few upgrades are required in a few positions. Liverpool were pretty much dominant from the beginning of the game and starting from Van Dijk’s header they did not stop hammering the City defence. The scoreline could have been even worse but it was City’s fortune that the reds could not bury the chances. Jamie Carragher was quoted by Sky Sports saying “I actually think Man City have a fight on their hands for top four.”

Pep to Liverpool fans “I have won 6 titles”

Salah’s Role in Liverpool’s Domination

Mo Salah has a combined G/A of 62 against the big six clubs of the PL. Many doubts were raised against him but he has absolutely silenced the critics with his performance this season. 24 G/A in 20 games this season, it is clear that he wants to put twice the effort to achieve the individual awards as he has already won most of the titles and trophies which were possible.

No one expected Liverpool to be on the top of not just the Premier League but also the UCL, but Slot has made everybody consider him on a top manager’s list. They did not sign anyone in the last transfer window, still used the players who were developed under Klopp and made some big moves. Mohammed Salah is just one goal behind Haaland and is just 3 assists away from Saka, what a fantastic season he is having and will definitely force the club to offer him a contract within the next window. Salah via X says “Top of the table is where this club belongs. Nothing less.”

Arne Slot’s Adaptive football

Slot is currently playing a very flexible system with his flexible players. When needed they can control the possession and when they need chaos they can create that as well. Fans say it is a mixture of Klopp’s and Slot’s own philosophy. In the post match conference Slot says “City play from the back and we exactly know how to control their attack and beat them on counter” which shows how aware he is with all his opponents and the results also say the same : Arne Slot has now defeated Real Madrid, Man City, Man United  this season, all without conceding a goal. “I’m really happy with these two wins but they’re not enough to win anything at the end of the season” Arne Slot says to Sky Sports.
