The uber which you might used this morning for going to offices, schools, colleges etc. is now not only on wheels but also on streams. Yes, you heard right, Uber India introduced ‘Uber Shikara’ for its users, who with just one click can book their shikara from their devices anywhere anytime. It is Uber’s first water transport facility which started on Monday onwards.

Facilities provided by Uber Shikara: –
There are certain other facilities which users can access through the Uber app, like, pre-booking the shikara from anywhere as per their convenience, which can provide the tourists with assurance to enjoy the scenic beauty of the Dal Lake without any delay in the rush period which is about to come; the shikara can be booked for a period of one hour for maximum 4 passengers; shikara can also be booked 15 days in advance and 12 hours prior to the ride. The uber shikaras will be available at the pre-determined government rates at the Dal Lake, Srinagar.

From politicians to local people all are admiring the platform for such a unique and futuristic idea. Jammu & Kashmir lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha also admired the company’s initiative and congratulated all the stakeholders he said, “Uber Shikara is a testament to creative ways technology can enhance our cultural heritage.” Local people as well the tourists are also excited about this launch while local people are excited about the footfall of the tourists during holidays due to this attraction, there is rush among tourists to book the Uber Shikara and experience the Dal lake’s beauty.
Some criticism and Questions : –
But that’s not all there are some questions also among the minds of shikara owners and local people about the entry of uber in the local business, they are sceptic about the surrender of this local business in the hands of a multinational company and losses in employment and also the migration of people from other regions, which can pose a threat to their livelihood and local traditions and customs.
