The Telangana government finally unveiled the design for the new “Telangana Talli” (Mother Telangana) statue that is going to represent the cultural heritage of the state, its historical struggles, and its lifeblood-women.A rural Telangana woman is dressed in a sari and ornaments; it reflects the resilience of women and self-reliance in an agrarian society.
Design and Significance
This new design emphasizes the cultural identity of Telangana and reflects elements inspired by the Bathukamma festival, which is one of the key celebrations that portrays the collective spirit of women. The features that represent the rural agrarian lifestyle of Telangana link it to the roots of the state’s economy and culture.Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced that the statue would come as a tribute to the rich cultural heritage of Telangana and its people, known for the unrelenting spirit of women and farmers.This version replaces an earlier one that faced criticism for not being compatible with the socio-cultural ethos of the state.
Its unveiling and ceremony
The unveiling of the statue has been scheduled for 9th December 2024 in front of the Telangana Secretariat in Hyderabad. This is an important date because it is the day when in 2009, the process towards the formation of Telangana state began. This date falls on the birthday of Sonia Gandhi as well, whose role had been pivotal in the forming of Telangana.
Features of the Statue
It is being chiseled out by the expert craftsmen at Pedda Amberpet at the outskirts of Hyderabad. It would be erected on a massive platform near the entrance of the Secretariat building. The entire area has been ornamented with fountains and laser light shows to enhance the attraction of the statue.
Telangana Talli Government’s Vision
Government attempts to make this statue symbolic of pride for each one of the citizens of Telangana. The chief minister has invited all other political parties and citizens and a unifying event transcending politics to participate in an unveiling ceremony. In fact, the state plans to have “Telangana Talli Day” every year on December 9 to celebrate.This is going to be a new Telangana Talli, which will eventually become a very powerful symbol of the state’s cultural identity and pivotal role played by women.
